Only have about £4000 to spend on the wedding maybe less. any ideas to save money?

xxxxxBride2Bexxxxx asked:

So far we have a DJ for free
£500 on the photographer
about £1400 on the reception including decorations etc
£700 on my dress and other bits like hair, make up, veil, tiara etc
Around £80 for my fiancés suit hire
I think were going to be doing the flowers ourselves (fake flowers)
Only thing is we cant find cheap transport and do not have anyone with a nice enough car for our wedding…
Any ideas on getting anymore things cheaply as possible?
I think we’ve done ok so far
Im in the channel islands (uk)
My fiances mum is making the invites as she is very good at that sort of stuff
bridesmaids etc are paying for there own outfits x

  1. why do you need a fancy car for transport? just use what you have.

    make your own invitations

set aside 200-500 for unexpected things that will arise last minute

  2. Only £4k? Think yourself lucky.
Cheap transport – get a friend with a reasonable car to ‘trim it up’ and use that.
£700 for your dress to be worn once – outrageous.

  3. -find a student photographer or friend and have them snap away. There are a lot of pros out there that won’t be much better. If there are enough pictures taken, there will be plenty of good ones to choose from. You can upload your pics to snap-fish or another web-site and have a professional looking album made.
-keep your decorations simple with a few key elements. Its better to use a few nice flowers than fake. Use less expensive flowers such as mums or tulips. Table runners are less expensive than table specialty table cloths, candles and mirrors are simple.
-Have your fiance wear something nice he already owns and dress it up with a tie matching your colors.
-There is a lot of nice white dresses available at J.Crew or even at department stores. Target.com even carries inexpensive wedding dresses. You want to look timeless for your wedding; skip the tiara. Have your local seamstress make you a basic veil for under $100. Do your own makeup (I paid to have my done and all they did was my eyes!!).
-Use fiftyflowers.com to buy fresh flowers at a good price. A few well placed arrangements will look 100x better than any fake flowers.
-Make an entrance/exit together on a cute scooter or bike then hop into your regular car. You’ll have cute pics from this but there is really no need to have a limo or nice car transport you.

  4. By my calculations, estimating 320 for the flowers, you’ve spent 3000.

Are you going to pay for your attendants’ attire?

The car may have to be your splurge.
